Global journalists and content creators visited the Northern Shaanxi Folk Song Museum in Yulin, Northwest China's Shaanxi province, on Oct 21, encountering soul-stirring melodies rooted in the region's culture.

They explored themed exhibitions that showcased the evolution and stylistic diversity of northern Shaanxi folk songs across different eras, with the air soon filled with music as performers brought these traditional songs to life.

The soaring notes of the suona, a traditional Chinese wind instrument and the resonant beats of the waist drum, another hallmark instrument of the region, made the museum echo with the earthy spirit of northern Shaanxi.

The guests even joined in the singing, learning to navigate the distinctive vocal embellishments unique to these folk tunes, and experienced firsthand the captivating allure of the Loess Plateau's musical heritage.

Oskar Kupke, a German blogger, shared his feelings about the experience, saying that the performers' voices are bursting with power and absolutely breathtaking. For him, the high-pitched and resounding style of the folk songs echoes the calls exchanged between people across the hills of the plateau.
