French elegance finds a home in old Beijing
The Qianmen area in downtown Beijing is bustling with visitors from home and abroad these days. Yet a stroll deeper into its narrow alleys still offers a taste of the relaxed pace and leisurely lifestyle of the old imperial capital. Recently, an exhibition brought a touch of French elegance and the art of slow living into Qianmen's rich historical and cultural setting.
Featuring works from 27 French brands, the exhibition, held from Oct 14 to 18, explored the aesthetics of everyday living, from time-honored handicrafts to interior design. Through objects designed to adorn every corner of the home, the brands showcased the artistry and spirit of craftsmanship.
Among the works creating this creative dialogue was an installation produced in collaboration between Chinese artist Bi Heng and French crystal maker Lalique. Combining the imagery of a Chinese dragon and a full moon, the piece reflects a traditional Chinese philosophy in which strength and gentleness coexist in harmony.
