Zhejiang advances autumn power grid overhaul to secure winter peak power supply

By Zhang Chenxu | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2026-10-25 10:00

As temperatures gradually drop in October, Zhejiang's power consumption is entering the winter peak season. To proactively tackle potential low temperatures, rain, snow and freezing weather in winter, as well as the rising electricity demand during peak periods, State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power has launched a province-wide autumn power grid maintenance campaign. The company is carrying out comprehensive defect elimination and equipment inspections to further consolidate the safe and stable operation of the power grid for the upcoming winter.

Zhejiang is a key region for modern agricultural development. Jiangshan Town in Ningbo's Yinzhou District, where the latest maintenance work took place, serves as a major local rice production base. Surrounding villages and towns host extensive farmland and vibrant family farms. In recent years, the area has witnessed continuous upgrades in agricultural infrastructure and greenhouses. Large-scale power cable deployment and the widespread use of distribution boxes, electric rolling shutters and fully automatic temperature control systems have placed higher demands on power supply reliability.

Currently a critical period for autumn harvest and winter sowing, the region sees concentrated power consumption for farmland irrigation, grain drying and greenhouse heating. Stable and reliable grid operation is essential to guarantee agricultural production efficiency and farmers' economic benefits.

To prevent excessive load pressure on transmission lines in winter, power crews prioritized maintenance on the 35 kV Zhengjiazhuang Line 3654. Centering on standardized safety procedures including the installation and removal of grounding wires, the overhaul precisely covered key operational points along the line, including the cable terminals of Tower No.1.

At the construction site, the maintenance team strictly implemented pre-work safety briefings and strengthened core risk control measures against falls and induced electricity hazards. All staff followed standardized operating protocols, conducting power tests before installing grounding wires under full-process supervision.

With safety measures fully in place, technicians carried out thorough inspections of overhead lines, hardware fittings and insulators along the route. Targeted defect elimination was promptly performed to fix aging, worn and faulty equipment, effectively eliminating potential grid risks.

Following the comprehensive overhaul, local power supply reliability has reached 100 percent, providing solid and robust power support for daily electricity usage and the upcoming winter peak power demand.
