The 2026 Greater Bay Area Science Forum is set to open on Saturday and runs through Monday, with events across six cities, including Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Huizhou, Dongguan, and Yangjiang, the Guangdong provincial government announced at a news conference on Tuesday.
The forum, approved by the State Council and jointly hosted by the governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, will feature an opening ceremony and main forum in Guangzhou's Nansha district, alongside 15 sub-forums and 10 activities across the region.
Guo Yile, deputy director-general of the Guangdong provincial government, said this year's edition would place greater emphasis on translating scientific dialogue into concrete innovation outcomes. "Unlike prior sessions, this year's forum focuses more on converting the impact of scientific dialogue into innovation momentum and leveraging its pooled high-caliber innovation resources to generate new drivers for industrial growth," she said.
The Shenzhen‑Hong Kong‑Guangzhou innovation cluster retained its top ranking on the 2026 Global Innovation Index, while the Zhuhai‑Macao cluster has featured in the global top 100 for three years running, Guo said.
The forum has served as a platform for scientific cooperation and exchanges among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, presenting innovation achievements from across the Greater Bay Area and connecting regional research with global networks, she said.
