China slams US restrictions on Chinese telecom carriers, testing labs

Beijing deplores and opposes Washington's move to oppress Chinese businesses, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Friday, vowing to take necessary measures to firmly defend its legitimate and lawful rights and interests.

The United States Federal Communications Commission said on Thursday that it will vote on November 19 on a proposal to ban major Chinese State-owned telecommunications carriers from gaining direct access to US phone numbers and IP-enabled networks.

The US also banned on Thursday all Chinese laboratories from testing electronic devices destined for the US market.

The US move overstretched the concept of national security and abused state power, which hinders normal economic and trade cooperation between Chinese and American businesses and is not in the interest of any party, including US companies and consumers, Guo said.
