China's television and online audiovisual sectors have each grown into billion-user markets, according to an industry report commissioned by the National Radio and Television Administration, marking deep penetration of audiovisual services across the country.
The report counted over 1 billion television users and 1.099 billion online audiovisual users as of the end of 2025. Strong daily usage underscores sustained user stickiness: viewers spent an average of four hours and five minutes daily on TV, while online audiovisual users logged 201 minutes each day on streaming, short videos and related content.
Fueled by rising demand for diverse content, the combined revenue of radio, television and online audiovisual industries exceeded 1.546 trillion yuan ($230 billion) in 2025, rising 5.22 percent year-on-year. Online audiovisual providers now dominate the revenue structure, taking 53.63 percent of total industry income. The notable expansion from the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan period reflects the sector's transformation, as internet-based audiovisual formats keep reshaping the broader media landscape.
Analysts note that steady user scale and consumption willingness lay a solid foundation for further innovation in high-definition content, interactive media and cross-screen services.
