By YIFAN XU in Washington | China Daily | Updated: 2026-11-05 09:47

Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng called for steady, sound and sustainable China-US relations, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and the consistency of China's policy toward the United States, while also discussing the Communist Party of China's self-governance and China's contributions to global development.

Xie made the remarks in a keynote speech at the US session of the "China's Governance and Worldwide Development Global Dialogue" on Monday. The event was cohosted by the Chinese embassy in the United States and China Media Group, or CMG.

Xie briefed participants on the important speech delivered by General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping at the fifth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and the guiding principles from the session.

"China's success hinges on our Party, so we must ensure full and rigorous Party self-governance. A better CPC means a better China, which in turn contributes to a better world," Xie said.

He said the plenary session had focused on persevering with full and rigorous Party self-governance, reflecting the CPC's commitment to strengthening itself.

"This plenary session was a significant meeting held on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and at a critical period in the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," he said.

Xie discussed China's governance and worldwide development from four perspectives: China's opportunities, sense of responsibility, contributions, and China-US relations.

On China's development, Xie said: "Under the Party's leadership, we have embarked on a Chinese path to modernization. The modernization China pursues is not for our country alone, but also for peace, development, mutually beneficial cooperation, and shared prosperity of the entire world."

On China's role in advancing human progress, he said: "The Communist Party of China is dedicated both to bringing greater happiness to the Chinese people and to striving for the progress of humanity. Committed to doing the hard but right thing, we have offered China's solutions to major global challenges through our own endeavors."

"Building a community with a shared future for humanity is the noble goal of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, offering China's answer to what kind of world we should build and how we should build it," Xie said, turning to global governance.

On China-US relations, Xie said a confident and composed China is committed to the steady, sound and sustainable development of bilateral relations.

"For two major countries like China and the United States, neither side can thrive without the other, and neither can change or replace the other. Cooperation is our sole right choice, and only through mutual benefit can we create a better future," he said in his speech.

Referring to President Xi Jinping's state visit to the United States in September, Xie said the two presidents had exchanged visits within half a year, marking a historic development in bilateral engagement. "During the visit, the two leaders agreed to build a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability on the basis of respect, fairness, and reciprocity, which has provided new strategic guidance for and also opened a new chapter in China-US relations."

Xie noted that the two sides had reached eight deliverables and released outcomes of economic and trade consultations, including reductions in tariffs on about $30 billion worth of goods imported from each other on a reciprocal basis. Youth exchange programs under the"100,000 in five years" initiative had also been swiftly rolled out.

"All this fully shows that achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and making America great again can go hand in hand, and that we can help each other succeed and advance the well-being of the whole world," Xie said.

He also said: "China's policy toward the United States remains consistent and stable."
