China and Africa held their third energy cooperation project promotion conference on Wednesday in Yueyang, Hunan province. It was the first time the event has taken place outside of Beijing.

At the third China-Africa Energy Cooperation Project Promotion Conference, officials and experts called for closer cooperation on green energy and for turning shared goals into specific projects to speed Africa's low-carbon transition. The conference was co-hosted by the National Energy Administration, the Hunan provincial government, and the African Union Commission.

Liu Deshun, chief engineer of the National Energy Administration, said that China and Africa have collectively developed over 1.5 gigawatts of photovoltaic power station capacity and more than 66,000 kilometers of new or upgraded transmission lines, with projects spanning over 40 African countries.

"Projects such as the Kaleta hydroelectric project in Guinea, the De Aar wind project in South Africa, and the Garissa solar plant in Kenya have become landmarks of Africa's green transition," Liu said.
