Houthi media says 27 killed in airstrikes near Yemen's Sanaa, Saudi-led coalition intercepts missile

SANAA/RIYADH -- At least 27 people, mostly women and children, were killed and more than 36 wounded in airstrikes near Yemen's capital Sanaa, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported Saturday, as the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted a Houthi cruise missile.

The channel blamed Saudi warplanes for the strikes, saying they hit a village east of Sanaa and destroyed about six houses.

Meanwhile, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement on social media platform X that Saudi forces had carried out 105 airstrikes and missile attacks on Sanaa and seven other Yemeni provinces over the past 24 hours, claiming dozens of casualties, mostly women and children.

The claims could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate comment from the Saudi-led coalition.

Also on Saturday, the Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile launched by the Houthis toward the Riyadh region in Saudi Arabia, without giving further details.

The incidents come amid escalating hostilities between the Houthis and government forces supported by the Saudi-led coalition, alongside Houthi-claimed missile and drone attacks inside Saudi Arabia.

Yemen has been mired in conflict since late 2014, when the Houthis seized Sanaa and much of the country's north, prompting the Saudi-led coalition to intervene in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government.
