China's quarantine authorities rejected 146 batches of imported food products in June after they failed quality safety tests, the country's quality watchdog announced on Tuesday.

Lu Chunming, spokesman for the General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, said the authority also rejected four batches of imported cosmetic products that failed quality tests in June.

The food products, mostly pastry and biscuit products, drinks and canned food from 26 countries, failed the tests due to excessive amounts of food additives and contamination, he said.

The cosmetics, mostly skin care products and perfumes, failed because of inadequate labeling and contamination.
