EWC alumni association names new board president

UHM SPAS Dean Edward Shultz to head EWC's International Alumni Association Executive Board

HONOLULU -- Dr Edward (Ned) Shultz, Dean of the School of Pacific and Asian Studies (SPAS) at University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) and Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Programs and Exchange, has been named the new president of the East-West Center's Alumni Association Executive Board. On July 1, 2012, Shultz will succeed former UHM Asian Studies Program Graduate Chair, Dr. Ricardo Trimillos, who had served his term as president and will remain on the board as an ex-officio member.

EWC Alumnus Dr. Ned Shultz earned his Master's degree in History at UHM through an East-West Center fellowship and continued on there to complete a Ph.D. with a focus on Korean history. He later served for many years as the director of the UHM Center for Korean Studies and was instrumental in the planning and execution of events associated with the 100th anniversary of Korean immigration to the United States.

The East-West Center Association (EWCA) is an international network of more than 60,000 students, scholars, and professionals who have a past affiliation with the East-West Center. EWCA provides programs and services for its members that are designed to extend the reach of the East-West Center and further support the Center's mission of promoting better relations and understanding among the people and nations of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific.

There are nearly 50 East-West Center Association (EWCA) chapters throughout Asia, the Pacific, and the United States. Chapters facilitate professional networking, engage in community service projects, and support the work of the East-West Center. Collectively they are contributing to global understanding, building an Asia Pacific community, and making a world of difference.
