Key projects worth $270m signed at EU-China fair

Six business projects worth $270 million were signed between Chinese and European companies during the EU-China Business and Technology Cooperation Fair in Chengdu, Sichuan province.

Other business agreements worth $197 million were signed at the "one-on-one meetings". Some 1,100 one-on-one meetings were held among 700 Chinese and European companies.

The three-day event drew over 1,000 delegates from China and the European Union, focusing on cooperation in such fields as energy-saving, renewable energy, new materials, modern agriculture, general aviation, biomedical, and information and communication technology.

Chengdu-based HitGen Ltd signed a cooperation project with the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research, University of Manchester, to do research on new anti-cancer drugs.

Another Chengdu-based company will cooperate with German companies Electro Optical Systems and EnvisionTEC to develop 3D printers for the China market.

Milan Hovorka, deputy minister of industry and trade of the Czech Republic, said he looked forward to promoting cooperation in economics and trade as well as general aviation.

According to Hovorka, the Czech Republic is ready to open direct flights between Chengdu and Prague, capital of the Czech Republic.

The annual fair, held in Chengdu consecutively for seven years, attracted more than 4,000 EU and Chinese companies and signed over 1,100 agreements in total.
