Amway has reported sales in China totaling 29.3 billion yuan ($4.83 billion) during 2013, an increase of 8 percent on 2012.

The company's China business now represents nearly 41 percent of the direct seller's global sales.

Amway reported global sales of $11.8 billion for 2013, a record high for the company and an improvement on the $11.3 billion of 2012.

Amway said it would meet increasing demand for its products, undertaking a global expansion project worth $375 million and involving manufacturing and research and development functions.

The expansion includes R&D facilities being built in China. Manufacturing sites in China are planned as part of the expansion as well.

In January, another US-based company Nu Skin that sells cosmetics and health products in China, has been investigated after media reports suggesting that Nu Skin is connected with pyramid selling practices.

According to a statement from Nu Skin, an article that appeared in People's Daily contains inaccuracies and exaggerations that are not representative of Nu Skin's business in China.
