Chengdu to be economic engine for western China

Updated: 2009-10-21 17:27 When companies look to set up operations in China's central and western cities, 70 percent of them will choose Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, chinanews.com.cn reported Wednesday.
When the 2009 Western China International Economy & Trade Fair closed in Chengdu Tuesday, a total of 133 Fortune 500 companies had set up offices in the city, according to a World Bank report, chinanews.com.cn said. Backed with fast development of infrastructure and a sound investment environment, Chengdu is attracting more and more funds from the outside world and it is expected to become the engine for economic growth in western China, said experts on regional economic development. Hou Shuiping, the president of Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences, said Chengdu should take responsibility for boosting the economic development in western regions. |
