The newspaper quoted Jonithan Lai Kin Hou, head of the Traffic Equipment Division of the Traffic Affairs Bureau as saying that some 300,000 patacas (US$37,974) have been spent on the installation of cameras on two Public Security Police cars and motorcycles. The remaining two million patacas (US$253,164) have been spent on the setting up of traffic cameras at 44 roadside locations.

According to Lai, the roadside cameras had been installed last year and would be in use within the first quarter of this year. Residents can check the traffic situation on different parts of the city on the bureau's website in Chinese and Portuguese.

Lam Man Wai, an official from Public Security Police, said cars and motorcycles with the new monitoring system would be used for real-time supervision of the traffic situation during emergencies or some big events, such as celebrity activities during the Spring Festival.
