BEIJING - Calls to police hotline 110 helped China investigate over 1.22 million criminal cases and led to the arrests of about 951,000 suspects in 2011, according to official figures.
Chinese police received some 135 million calls for reporting crimes and another 11.99 million calls for seeking assistance last year, the Ministry of Public Security said in a statement on Tuesday.
January 10 was observed across China as a day to mobilize the public to report crimes or incidents by calling 110.
In a related development, last month police authorities began a six-month national campaign to engage in more field visits, a move to better hear public opinions and complaints and toughen the crackdown on crime.
