Money is important, but professional talent is more important for the protection of Dunhuang and other cultural treasures, said Fan Jinshi, director of China Dunhuang Academy and a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Politic Consultative Conference (CPPCC), according to ce.cn.

The Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, built in 366 AD, are the world's largest and best protected site for Buddhist art, and have been listed as a World Heritage Site since December 1987. Because the Grottoes are located in the remote Gobi desert in Northwest China's Gansu province, the academy has taken pains to train professional caretakers and improve conditions so that they will work there willingly, Fan said.
