BEIJING - The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has decided to remove Wang Lijun from the position of vice mayor of Chongqing, a senior official with the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee confirmed Thursday.

Wang's removal is being handled according to procedures, the official told xinhuanet.com.

He Ting, vice governor and police chief of Qinghai province, has been nominated to replace Wang as vice mayor of Chongqing.

He, 50, had previously served as director of the criminal investigation department under the Ministry of Public Security, and assistant governor and police chief in Gansu and Qinghai provinces, respectively, according to xinhuanet.com.

He has served as Qinghai vice governor and head of the province's public security department since March 2009.
