BEIJING - Most of the judicial reform goals specified by the Supreme People's Court (SPC) in its five year-reform outline passed in 2009 have been met, an SPC spokesman said Tuesday.

Spokesman Sun Jungong said at an SPC press conference that over 100 tasks related to enhancing courtroom efficiency, promoting fair judicial practices and improving personnel management have been completed thus far.

Boosting the transparency of judgments, establishing a diversified conflict management mechanism and continuing anti-corruption efforts are also among the tasks that have been accomplished, Sun said.

Legislation to curb nepotism in the judicial sector has been passed, preventing judges from remaining on the bench if their spouses or children are working as lawyers in areas under their jurisdiction, Sun said.

Similar regulations have also been passed that ban civil servants from assuming top posts in prefecture-level procuratorates, courts or police departments in their hometowns.

The SPC will further deepen reforms in order to clean up the country's courts and allow them to respond to and solve the concerns of the people, Sun said.
