Nanjing citizens called a 23-story building under construction, Nanchang Mansion, "too wasteful," due to its future occupancy plan for an office of fewer than 10 men, according to a report from www.dayoo.com.
The office expected to go into the building is the Nanjing Office of Nanchang municipal government, from East China's Jiangxi province. The office chief surnamed Cao responded that the building would mainly provide a workplace for Jiangxi's enterprises in Nanjing, while the Nanjing Office would occupy only a few rooms.
The Nanchang Mansion project has been permitted by Nanjing's construction and other authorities."According to regulations, the official construction project should not be used for commercial development because the land is allocated by the construction authority, which means the land price is much lower than at auction," said Wu Xianghua, deputy head of Tiancheng property institute at Nanjing University of Technology.
"In the Nanchang Mansion project, not all 23 stories will be used for government offices, and it would be violating the rule if part of the building is for rent or hotel business," Wu added.
