Gu Chaohao, renowned mathematician |
Gu was born in 1926 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province. He received his doctorate in physics and mathematics from Moscow State University in 1959 and is a former vice president of Fudan University and a former president of the University of Science and Technology of China.
Gu won the nation's top science and technology award for 2009 for his contribution to the country's space development. He was honored for his "important contributions" to differential geometry, partial differential equations and mathematical physics, three sub-disciplines of modern mathematics.
