HONG KONG - Hong Kong Customs announced Wednesday that 6.3 kilograms of cocaine worth an estimated 6.45 million HK dollars (about $832,000) were seized and a 25-year-old man was arrested at the Hong Kong International Airport on Tuesday.
The man, who arrived from Brazil, was stopped for luggage examination while in transit to Zhuhai by ferry. Officers found the drug in a false compartment of his suitcase.
He will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts this morning.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offense. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of 5 million HK dollars.
