School with a global vision

What they say on foreign languages teachingLi Honglang, principal of Wuhan Foreign Language School

Established 49 years ago, Wuhan Foreign Language School is relatively new, compared to many schools that have a history of more than 100 years.

In 1964, our school was set up to nurture expertise in foreign languages and diplomacy. But today, as a school with excellent education resources, we want to do more. We want to give students multiple choices and hope that they can progress on the basis of the advantage they gain from this.

So while we still focus on our language strength we also prioritize a balanced developmental approach to all the subjects. We attach importance to online education and international cooperation.

Beyond the basic courses, we offer five types of curricula for students to choose. These are: community; school-based; international; study tours, and supplementary, which is an online curriculum.

We also provide selective courses, such as second foreign languages and courses on the United Nations.

What students get from these curricula is outstanding. For example, one of our students, Yin Xiaoyue had a passion for social work. She used to be a census taker, and helped children of migrant workers with their English for free. She entered Yale in 2011.

Another student of ours, Deng Zixuan enrolled in Columbia University in 2013. Deng used to run an English magazine in our school. She also wrote novels and her poetry anthology was published.

We cooperate with overseas schools, from which we introduced some top-quality courses, in order to help students know more about world culture.

This cooperation involves a number of famous overseas universities that take our students, like the University of Toronto, Tufts University in the United States and the Paris Institute of Political Studies.
