A court in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, sentenced Huang Zhiguang, former deputy head of Shenzhen's political advisory body, to 14 years in prison on Friday.
Huang was found guilty of illegally owning several guns and also accepting bribes worth more than 5.5 million yuan ($902,000), including 582,000 yuan in caterpillar fungus, a highly valued ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine, according to the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court.
Before moving to Shenzhen in May 2010, Huang had been Party chief of Shantou for about five years.
