Sir Run Run Shaw Day
In 1990, Sir Run Run Shaw established a senior center in San Francisco, called Lady Shaw Senior Center, named after his first wife. The center offers 70 units: seven double rooms and 63 single rooms. All seniors whose household income meets a low threshold can apply. The center has many services such as laundry, multifunctional dining rooms, and entertainment. Many local seniors have benefited from the center. The San Francisco government named Sept 8 as Sir Run Run Shaw Day in 1988 in order to recognize Shaw's contribution to public welfare.
