A 9-year-old boy suffering from tumors persuaded his parents to give up on medical treatment for him after researching his illness online, Yangtze Evening News reported on Tuesday.

Liang Liang, who lives in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, with his parents who are migrant workers from their hometown in Sichuan province, was recently diagnosed with Tlymphoblastic lymphoma.

His parents told him he suffered from a respiratory disease, but he learned his true condition after researching online. Knowing the cost of medical treatment for him was far beyond his parents' earnings, Liang Liang asked his parents to cease his treatment.

The parents said they would never give up treatment for their son even though they have only 1,000 yuan ($160) to live on each month and had spent more than 150,000 yuan on his treatment, and they have hope as doctors told them 60 to 70 percent of such patients can be cured.

The boy's teachers and schoolmates have donated about 70,000 yuan to support the poor family.
