Zhou Lina, the only Han-ethnic teacher at a bilingual kindergarten at Atushen in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region shows her students how a bird flies on Tuesday. Atushen is the capital city of Kezilesu Kirgiz autonomous prefecture in western Xinjiang. Zhou, born and raised in Northeastern China's Liaoning province, never dreamed of traveling so far to live in Xinjiang. She has remained here for 21 years, and has grown as strong as a poplar tree on the Gobi desert, devoting all she has to educating the region's young. Her life and career are vivid tokens of the deep bond that exists between the Uygur and Han people there. [Photo/Xinhua] |
