Bao Laixu, who set fire to a bus full of passengers in Hangzhou on July 5, admitted to his crime during his trial on Wednesday. Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court has not announced the result of the trial yet.

Since the act of arson put the 35-year-old in a serious health condition and both his feet were amputated, he attended the trial lying in bed. He admitted to setting fire to the bus and said he regretted hurting so many people.

"I did not feel like living at that time and got on a random bus. Now I know that innocent passengers got hurt because of me. It is too late to say anything. I have to pay for what I did," he said in court.

Bao said that he lost hope in life because he was suffering from tuberculosis.
