The Land Is So Rich in Beauty, a war drama produced by Taiwan art-house film maestro Hou Hsiao-hsien and directed by mainland director Xiao Feng, will be released soon. Set against World War II, the film follows a man trapped between his hatred for Japanese invaders and love for his Japanese wife when the war between China and Japan breaks out in the 1930s. Director Xiao Feng is one of the so-called fifth-generation directors, known for their epic films on history and traditional Chinese culture, such as the earlier works of Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige.
