The 2014 annual Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Awards were held Wednesday night (March 5, 2014) with stars from both sides of the camera turning out.

Among them was Hong Kong director Wong Kar-wai who has just returned empty-handed from the Oscars on Sunday.

His kung fu epic "The Grandmaster" was nominated in two categories at the Academy Awards - costume design and cinematography.

Although he didn't win he didn't seem too downhearted, "It was a very productive trip, especially when a Hong Kong film like 'The Grandmaster' is able to receive exposure on this platform. Most of the awards were given mostly to two films. I think that's interesting."

That would be "Gravity" and "12 Years a Slave" that he's talking about there which won 10 Oscars between them.

In all, seven awards were handed out during the Hong Kong awards.

"The Grandmaster" nabbed Best Film and Best Director, while Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi were named Best Actor and Best Actress respectively.

Best New Director went to Adam Wong with "The Way We Dance" and the film's lead actor Baby John Choi nabbed Best New Actor.
