Zhuhai to host Mozart competition for young performers

The First Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians was announced recently. To be held from Sept 13 to 26 next year in Zhuhai city in Southeast China's Guangdong province, the competition will have two categories, piano and violin, two of the most popular instruments in China.

Participants up to 23 years old will be divided into three age groups. Held every two years, the competition is supported by the University Mozarteum Salzburg, which was established in 1841 and is famous for being one of the most celebrated music academies in Europe.

The University Mozarteum Salzburg founded the International Mozart Competition in 1975, aiming at carrying on the legacy of Mozart. The Chinese event is co-organized by Zhuhai Municipal People's Government.

Austrian pianist and professor Klaus Kaufmann and violinist Paul Roczek will head the committee. The Salzburg Chamber Soloists, famed for their playing of Mozart, will be the orchestra for the final round of the competition.
