'The Martian' keeps ruling China's box office

American science fiction film "The Martian" continued to dominate China's box office, pulling in 172 million yuan ($26.6 million) in seven days.

Faithfully adapted from Andy Weir's 2011 namesake novel, the film portrays an astronaut, played by Matt Damon, who finds himself stranded and alone on Mars.

Since opening on Nov 25, the film has already earned over 482 million yuan in Chinese theaters.

Meanwhile, domestic romantic comedy "Fall in Love Like A Star" opened in the second spot, with 98 million yuan.

Starring actor Li Yifeng and actress Yang Mi, the film depicts a secret love between a super idol and his talent agent.

The third place goes to American-Chinese co-produced thriller "Point Break" at 76 million yuan.

"Our Times", a romantic comedy from Taiwan, dropped to the fourth spot at 70 million yuan, but remains the highest-grossing film fromm Taiwan released on the Chinese mainland.

Rounding out the top five is domestic comedy "Impossible", with 54 million yuan in ticket sales.
