Artist Huang Zhou (1925-1997) took the center stage on the Chinese mainland's autumn auction market with several of his works fetching high prices in sale rooms.

In addition to Gaiety on the Grassland, which fetched a record-breaking 128.8 million yuan ($21.20 million), two other of Huang's ink-and-color paintings were among the top 10 lots at autumn sales by Beijing Council International Auction Co.

His work Patrol in Snow, which measures 2.06 meters by 3 meters, is considered a representative work from the artist’s prime. It sold for 45.4 million yuan.

Happy Children, which Huang painted in 1972, fetched 40.25 million yuan.

Huang's portrayal of magnificent views and his enthusiastic brushwork have made his works a favor of collectors, especially in North China.
