Talking to a new generation

Updated: 2012-03-23 13:37
By Chen Nan ( China Daily)

Unlike most small theater dramas in China, which are comical and meaningless, I Am the Moon, by 25-year-old scriptwriter Zhu Yi, explores some serious subjects that confuse the young generation.

From the jobless A-list graduate to the loveless high-salary white-collar workers, Zhu talks about some difficult questions the country's youth face. Instead of having lots of actors speaking witty dialogues, Zhu uses more monologues.

It seems like the actors are chatting with the audience from the stage, discussing their attitudes about life.

A Colombia University graduate who studied scriptwriting, Zhu is a member of the American Theater Association. I Am the Moon was created during her time in the United States, while the original version was in English and set against the background of British society.

After a successful premiere and performances on Broadway, Zhu has brought the drama to China.

Most of the actors are Central Academy of Drama students and the director is Zhang Hui.

8 pm, until April 1. Trojan House Theater, 6-31 22 International Art Place, Chaoyang district, Beijing. 010-5711-0860.
