I bet some people think Yang Feiyun is stubborn. The 58-year-old oil painter achieved fame long ago for his solid Realistic techniques.
The former teacher at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, now the dean of the Chinese Academy of Oil Painting, is still loyal to his Realistic neverland.
And he has his followers. At the ongoing exhibition Soul and Honesty, nearly 150 oil paintings by him and his 17 students are on display at the Art Gallery of Chinese Academy of Oil Painting.
The same models and sceneries are painted from various angles, and viewers can easily tell quite a number of the exhibited works were created in a group.
No matter how the art world changes, seeing these lifelike textures of skin and wrinkles makes Yang's three-word motto sound convincing: "Art is faith."
