"The Piano in a Factory" was a Chinese movie released in 2011. On July 18, a stage adaptation of the film will kick off at the Capital Theater in Beijing.

The original story takes place in a deserted factory in the 1980s. Lead character Chen Guilin used to work there but was dismissed when the factory closed down. In order to win guardianship of his daughter, he pleads with his former workmates to come back to the factory and make a piano for her.

Cai Xingru, a producer of the stage version, says, "We abandoned the movie's setting of age and style, because our performers in real life are very fashionable and beautiful. We did not want them to look as messy as they are in the movie. We wanted them to show their most attractive side to the audience."
