Ake, the Years of Childhood
The book, unlike his other plays, is a childhood memoir in the tone of a younger Soyinka. Its mild, warm and lovely tone offers a shortcut into the heart of the great writer.
In the book, Soyinka shares his childhood ideas on religion and colonialism, and also "expresses youthful idealism and unfiltered honesty while escaping the adult snares of cynicism and intolerance".
Chinese writer Xu Zechen says it's his favorite work from Soyinka.
