The China Documentary Research Center, an institute affiliated to the Communication University of China, released the Annual Report on the Development of Chinese Documentary (2012) on Nov 30. The report uses statistics, case studies and policy analyses to create a complete picture of the genre's landscape in China over the past year. The report finds documentaries made in 2011 were 300 hours longer than in 2010 - reaching 5,407 hours. It also reveals 55.9 percent were from China Central Television. Some favorable policies adopted in 2011 have encouraged the industry, but China's documentary makers still face the challenges of an incomplete industry chain and international marketing obstacles.
