Grassland Melodies, Xie Zhiliu
Xie Zhiliu (1910-1997) painted in varied styles throughout his life. The painting was completed during a period characterized by his fine brushwork and attention to detail. A wide area of grassland with undulating hills brings out the delicate beauty of the wilderness. A small portion at the top was left to the sky, creating an image of a land stretching out under a clear sky.
Xie loved observing and imitating ancient Chinese paintings. He perfectly blended culture and nature together, giving his works a sense of the simplicity of paintings of the Song (960-1279) and Yuan (1271-1368) dynasties. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
