Fujian province has provided more social benefits for seniors this year, according to a Southeast Express report on Wednesday.
Provincial authorities have announced that as of June an allowance program by which everyone above the age of 80 will get a monthly subsidy of 100 yuan has been expanded to all 84 cities and counties.
People above 70 can take free bus rides across Fujian. The threshold has been lowered to 60 in some areas.
Seniors also enjoy many privileges at hospitals, and usually get a ticket discount at scenic resorts in the province.
The number of centenarians in Fujian, 82% of whom are women, totaled 1,898 as of July 1, an increase of 192 over last year.
