Fujian netizens spent 2.3 billion yuan ($360.75 million) on the Tmall platform within 14 hours on Singles' Day (Nov 11), a day that has become a national online shopping spree.
The spending power made Fujian one of the top-10 buying regions in China, and Jinjiang also entered the top 10 counties list, according to statistics from the Alibaba Group.
The statistics also showed that the gross merchandise volume on the Tmall platform reached 57.1 billion yuan ($8.98 billion) at 11:50 am on Nov 11, breaking last year's record within half a day.
Fujian's cross-border e-commerce companies are now preparing for the upcoming Black Friday, the big brick-and-mortar and online sales event in the US, which has become a carnival for Fujian netizens to purchase overseas products.
The presales statistics from cross-border e-commerce platforms show that the most popular overseas products among Fujian netizens are cosmetics, baby products, medicines and health products, and food.
