BEIJING - China's meteorological authority on Sunday announced the continuation of its blue alert, the lowest in a four-tier warning system, as storms will hit some southern regions.

On Sunday and Monday, parts of Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Yunnan and Guangxi as well as Taiwan will be hit by torrential rain, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement on its website.

Rainfall is expected to reach up to 80 millimeters in Taiwan and the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian and Yunnan, according to the statement.

The NMC suggested to people living in the affected areas that they should avoid outdoor activities and take precautions against possible landslides and mud-rock flows.

China has a four-tier color-coded warning system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
