China-ECOWAS Economic & Trade Forum was held in Beijing on Sep 23, 2008, in which ECOWAS economic and trade delegation presided by President of the Commission Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas discussed actively with commercial representatives from China in terms of mutual benefit and cooperation. CGGC, on behalf of Chinese enterprises, signed off Letters of Intent for contracting of four power and infrastructures projects.

Nie Kai and ECOWAS partners sign off Letters of Intent

Nie Kai, vice president and general manager of CGGC International, mentioned in his lecture given in the forum that CGGC has been expanding its business so rapidly in African countries such as Nigeria, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea and Algeria in the fields of hydropower, highways, water distribution, ship building, municipal construction, E & M equipment export and so on. More than $3 billion international contracting orders including Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project in Nigeria were issued to CGGC in 2007. With everlasting highlighted attention on West Africa, CGGC is eager for and hereby commits its positive contribution to West African economy and further cooperation between China and ECOWAS with its advanced technology, management, talents and equipment.

The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) is one of the largest regional economic group consisting of fifteen countries such as The Republic of Benin, Burkina Faso, The Republic of Cabo Verde, The Republic of Cote d'ivoire, The Republic of Gambia, The Republic of Ghana, The Republic of Guinee, The Republic of Guinee Bissau, The Republic of Liberia, The Republic of Mali, The Republic of Niger, The Federal Republic of Nigeria, The Republic of Senegal, The Republic of Sierra Leone, Togolese Republic. With total area of 5,110,000km2 and population of 230 million, ECOWAS occupies over one sixth of total area and one third of population of Africa with abundant resources. The international trade value between China and ECOWAS was $11,717 million in 2007 including $1,094 billion for import and $1,062.3 billion for export. The Federal Republic of Nigeria, The Republic of Benin and The Republic of Ghana are our major partners in ECOWAS.
