Main body of Malian Bridge Project formally starts concrete grouting

Updated: 2009-06-23

On June 21, 2009, the first layer of concrete finished grouting for the left pile of No 18 pile of Bamako No 3 Bridge, which was undertaken by CGGC as an EPC contractor. This was the first bunker of the structural concrete for the main body project of the bridge, and marked the commencement of the concrete construction for the main body structure of the bridge.

The bridge lies in Bamako, the capital of the Republic of Mali, spans the River Niger, and covers a total length of 2,294 meters. The bridge and the connecting roads both have four lanes in two directions, involve a designed width of 24 meters, and adopt asphalt concrete for road surface. The bridge is one of the ever largest public projects in Mali under construction, and an important foreign aid project of the Chinese government that CGGC has ever undertaken. It will cost 36 months according to the contract.

Since entering the site at the end of 2008, the CGGC project department for Bamako No 3 Bridge has overcome such difficulties as hot weather, the language barrier and local employees’ lack of skills, elaborately organized the construction and ensured the smooth project progress. Up till June 20, temporary works had basically finished, and the manual pile excavation and the blast excavation of the enlarged foundations of the piles on both banks started in an all-round manner. After the meticulous and careful preparation of the project department, the enlarged foundation of No 18 pile took the lead in fulfilling the condition for grouting the first layer of concrete.

It is learned that the equipment and materials shipped from China will successively arrive at the site, which will launch a new climax of the construction for the bridge.
