Nepalese Hydropower Station succeeds in river closure |
At 2:00 pm, Dec 2, 2009 local time, the Chameliya Hydropower Station in Nepal undertaken by CGGC successfully realized the river closure, and laid a solid foundation for subsequent concrete grouting.
The hydropower station lies in the Yuanxida Chu pulls Region, Nepal, and has a total installed capacity of 30,000 kilowatts. The dam is 919 kilometers away from Katmandu, the capital of Nepal. The Chameliya project department of No 1 Company has mainly undertaken the civil construction of the station. In January 2007, the project commenced.
Due to the narrow valley and swift current of the Chameliya River, it was always concerned whether the river closure would be smooth. Even worse, due to the barrier lake event that happened in the head region of the project on July 26, a 250m-long construction road on the right bank of the dam in the head region was completely destroyed by the flood, and the inlet section of the diversion tunnel was entirely blocked by sand and gravels, posing a severe challenge for the smooth river closure.
The project department has overcome many difficulties and made considerable efforts to accelerate the dredging from the riverbed and the diversion tunnel and the pavement of yellow earth on the upstream of the cofferdam, to prepare for shoring up the dike for the river closure.
