The president listened carefully to the progress report made by the project manager and inquired about the significance of the project in the water supply to Accra. He acknowledged the progress and efforts made by CGGC, and stated that the project would greatly relieve the water shortage for both domestic and industrial purposes in Accra, Tema and Adenta. He also said that the government would continue its support for the project.

Located in the coastal plain of Kpong, 45 kilometers north of Tema, The Kpong Water Supply Expansion Project includes a water plant, an office building for the production and management of the water plant, water pumps, a substation, a raw water aeration tank, a low-load settling pond, an air-water backwash pond, a large clean water tank and water pipes as well as force pump stations concerning water purification technologies such as regular sediment, sand filtration and disinfection. After completion, the project would be the largest of its kind in the country and supply water for a population of one million around Accra.
