The rural electrification project mainly involves electrification reform in rural areas of Savannakhet, Saravane and Sekong in southern Laos and new cable laying in Attapeu. It includes laying a 2,115 kilometers 22KV single-circuit power transmission line, a 50.5 kilometers 115KV double-circuit transmission line, a 341.5 kilometers 400v low-voltage wire for civil use and installing 445 sets of transformers within 36 months. As an important part of the strategic plan on power development of Laos for 2020, the project is expected to benefit approximately 20,000 families in 22 areas and 570 villages in southern Laos.

Previously, the Electrification Project in Rural Areas of Northern Laos, another key project of the strategic plan on power development of Laos for 2020 undertaken by CGGC, was completed on May 30, 2012, five months and nine days ahead of schedule, which was highly praised by the Prime Minister of Laos, local provincial government, Electricite du Laos (EDL), local electricity companies, and the Chinese embassy and economic counselor’s office in Laos.
