As an EPC turnkey project undertaken by CGGC, Kapichila Hydropower Station (Phase II) project is located on Shire River, which is the only river that flows out from Lake Malawi, the third largest lake of Africa. It is 70km away southwest from Blantyre, the largest city of the Republic of Malawi. The project mainly includes two 32MW water-turbine generator sets and auxiliary electromechanical equipments, as well as design, procurement, installation, construction, adjustment and commissioning of a 20km 132kV power transmission line.
Since its start on February 25, 2011, the project office meticulously organized and strictly planned the project, adhered to the guideline of “Sincerity, Quality and Safety ", put the project into production and transferred it to the owner in despite of the difficulties of expansion, long haul cycle and severe natural environment, thereby gaining highly praise from the Malawian government and creating an excellent brand image of CGGC in the local market of Malawi.
It is reported that Malawi is plagued with severe power shortage and its power supply rate is merely 8%. Kapichila Hydropower Station is one of the core power stations and main power supplies of Malawi, and the operation of the Phase-II project will effectively ease the power shortage of the country. The Malawian government plans to held a grand celebration ceremony for electricity generation of Kapichila Hydropower Station on January 17, 2014, and Joyce Banda, Malawi's president, and the Chinese ambassador to Malawi, will visit the hydropower station.
