Early in February, CGGC's Ethiopia GD-3 Project Management Office donated a hope primary school, the CGGC Primary School, in the local area.
Chiefs of Ethiopian Electric Power Company and officials of the local government attended the donation ceremony. The ceremony aroused warm percussion in the local area, and a number of media organizations and newspaper agencies reported CGGC's charitable deed, including "Report", a major news program in Ethiopia.
While completing its construction tasks, CGGC has always been committed to helping with the infrastructure building in the local areas. Over the more than four years since the launch of the GD-3 Hydropower Plant in Ethiopia, CGGC offered necessary goods and funds to build a school and cultural and sports facilities in the local area, improving the school conditions there.
Meanwhile, it also built roads in mountainous areas, which on one hand is necessary for the project, and on the other, substantially improved the road condition and made it convenient for the local to travel.
CGGC also provided free medical service for local residents, sent vehicles to carry critical patients and pregnant women to hospitals for treatment. This helped local people to ensure good health and was highly praised by the local government and communities. This time, the project management office built the original temporary camp of the project owner into a Hope primary school, and purchased desks, chairs, books and stationery for the school.
At the donation ceremony, officials from the local government said that CGGC brought a lot of jobs to the local area. By donating a Hope primary school, CGGC enabled more local children to receive quality education, and the local people were grateful to CGGC for its great contribution. The chief of the Ethiopian Electric Power Company said that education was crucial to a country and it was the basis of the quality of people. And he thanked CGGC for its selfless assistance to Ethiopia in this regard.
A CGGC chief at the ceremony pointed out that the GD-3 Hydropower Plant aimed at promoting the economic development in Ethiopia and the well-being of the local people. He also said that the support of local people and the project owner was of great importance to the smooth progress of the project. For this, CGGC is sincerely grateful.
China and Ethiopia has long lasting friendship and cooperation relationship, and CGGC benefited a lot during the construction of the project. CGGC hopes sincerely that the education condition and living standard of local people can both be promoted, and it expects the cooperation with the local government and people can be even more effective and fruitful.
In its report of the donation ceremony, a major media of the local area said that the project in Ethiopia proved CGGC to be fully capable of fulfilling the contract, and have made active effort to shoulder its social responsibility, contributing to the public well-being of the local people; this time's donation served as sound evidence that the friendship between China and Ethiopia had progressed continuously.
Located about 400 kilometers to the southeast of Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, the GD-3 project is close to the border with Somalia and Kenya, and is in a tropical forest area.
The dam of the project is a concrete-face rock-fill dam 110 meters in height and 450 meters in length. Comprising of three axis-type mixed-flow hydropower generators, the power plant has total a capacity of 254MW. CGGC undertook all tasks concerning to the project including design, civil engineering, metal structure manufacturing and installation, machinery and electric equipment supply and installation, etc.
