Qingyuan plans to invest 31.5 billion yuan on 111 major transportation projects this year, including the Guangzhou-Qingyuan and Guangzhou-Lechang highways and the Golden Grain Bridge, city officials said, according to a new work report.

The work report of the Qingyuan municipal government was presented at the 6th session of the 5th Municipal People’s Congress of Qingyuan.

The local government outlined plans during the 12th Five-Year Plan build the city into a regional demonstration area for coordinated economic development that will include a high-end industry development zone in the Pearl River Delta, a new leisure city in southern China and a satellite city in the greater Guangzhou area.

By the end of 2015, Qingyuan will establish a highway framework of 1,088 kilometers. The network will connect all Qingyuan counties and provide multiple exits from Guangdong province, according to the work report.

The government also will accelerate construction of an inter-city light-rail transit system between Guangzhou and Qingyuan and step up efforts to finish the Beijiang Feilai Gorge water conservation project.

Qingyuan wants to become a transportation hub linking the Pan-Pearl River Delta region with eastern, western and northern Guangdong in the next five years, authorities said.
